Hughesdale Edwardian

Located on one of Hughesdale’s most tightly held streets, this circa-1910 timber Edwardian had all the bones worth preserving — a decked verandah, arched entry hallway, ceiling roses, deep cornices, original leadlights, and the kind of craftsmanship that simply isn’t replicated today.

The brief was to honour all of that while creating something completely liveable for a growing family. The new footprint needed to accommodate space to work from home without compromising the family areas that a busy household actually needs.

The front of the home was carefully restored, with original joinery repaired and period details brought back to their best. To the rear, a large modern extension was designed to sit in contrast rather than imitation; contemporary in materiality, but considered in how it connects to the original structure.

The result is a home that earns its place on the street and works properly behind it.

Hughesdale Brick Clinker

Positioned on one of Hughesdale’s most coveted streets — a tree-lined stretch of period homes that have largely held their character through the decades. This property is a fitting part of that streetscape: a clinker brick home with original fireplaces, high ceilings, deep cornices and the kind of central hallway that tells you immediately this house was built to last.

The brief was to honour all of that while creating something that works for a contemporary family. To the rear, a generous extension opens the home up, adding the living space the original footprint couldn’t offer.

The result is a home that earns its place on one of Hughesdale’s finest streets, and delivers something far more generous behind the facade than the street suggests.
